Background of the Study
Supplier certification programs are integral to ensuring consistent quality standards in supply chain operations. These programs assess suppliers based on predefined criteria, including product quality, compliance, and sustainability practices, thereby minimizing risks and fostering trust. Nigerian Breweries, a leading FMCG company, relies on supplier certification to maintain high-quality standards in its operations in Katsina State (Eze & Okon, 2024).

In an increasingly competitive market, supplier certification programs help companies like Nigerian Breweries meet regulatory requirements, enhance product quality, and strengthen supply chain relationships. This study evaluates the effectiveness of these programs in achieving quality objectives (Adebayo & Musa, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
While supplier certification programs are essential for maintaining quality standards, challenges such as inconsistent evaluations, high implementation costs, and supplier resistance often hinder their effectiveness. Nigerian Breweries faces these issues in its operations in Katsina State, affecting overall supply chain quality. This study aims to address these challenges and evaluate the impact of supplier certification programs on quality enhancement (Ibrahim & Adama, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the role of supplier certification programs in enhancing quality standards at Nigerian Breweries.
  2. To identify challenges in implementing supplier certification programs.
  3. To recommend strategies for improving supplier certification processes.

Research Questions

  1. How do supplier certification programs enhance quality standards at Nigerian Breweries?
  2. What challenges hinder the effective implementation of supplier certification programs?
  3. What strategies can improve supplier certification processes?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Supplier certification programs do not significantly enhance quality standards.
  2. H0: Challenges in implementation do not significantly affect the effectiveness of supplier certification programs.
  3. H0: Proposed strategies do not significantly improve supplier certification processes.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Nigerian Breweries’ operations in Katsina State, emphasizing supplier certification and its role in enhancing quality standards. Limitations include variations in supplier compliance and access to confidential supplier evaluation data.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Supplier Certification Programs: Structured processes for evaluating and approving suppliers based on specific criteria.
  2. Quality Standards: Predefined benchmarks for product or service excellence.
  3. Compliance: Adherence to regulations, policies, or standards.
